dude, where’s my fall?

It’s officially fall here in Utah, but the weather is in the upper eighties, low nineties. The leaves are changing up in the mountains, but down here in the valley…why am I sweating so much?!

I actually had to turn the air conditioning on the other day, which was weird because just last week it was in the low seventies and I was wearing my favorite hoodie. It was such a nice break from the summer weather, but with it warming up again, my body is coping by giving me a cold.

Bleh.

I took a COVID test and it was negative, so thank goodness for that. But, I either have a regular cold or really bad allergies. I’m leaning more towards a cold because I can feel the beginnings of a cold sore on my lip. Oh joy.

But, back to fall. Despite the too warm weather, other signs of fall are apparent. For one thing, the mountains look like this:

Another sign: football!

Not to mention the return of all things pumpkin (Starbucks, I’m looking at you!), as well as the fall decor with Halloween mixed in.

It’s fall, but the weather didn’t get the memo.

I’m trying not to complain, but since being diagnosed with fibromyalgia, I really look forward to fall and it’s cooling weather. A symptom of fibromyalgia can be Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and for me, it’s triggered by warmer weather. So honestly, I’ve been sleeping the summer away. It’s literally exhausting.

But, it’s also a trade off. Summers trigger my CF/ME, but fall and winter makes my Fibromyalgia flare up. So I’m awake more to deal with the chronic pain. I really can’t win.

But, at this point, I’d rather be awake and dealing with the pain than just sleeping. I basically missed the summer break with my kids, and that makes me sad. My kids are teenagers and young adults with their own busy schedules, so I’m always trying to find little slices of time to connect with them. But, sleeping the summer days away didn’t help.

So here’s to the fall weather getting here soon. It’s actually going to be in the nineties this weekend and cool down to the eighties next week, but I’m hopeful I’ll be more awake in the coming days.

Happy fall, y’all!
