Caffeine has not been my friend since I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Granted, I have a Cherry Coke “addiction” but caffeine is not good for my inflammation. A nice, cold Cherry Coke helps a bit with my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and my migraines, but other than that, I really shouldn’t be drinking so much of it.
I’ve tried in the past few months to gradually cut back on the sugary deliciousness, but I’ve only proven to myself that I have no willpower. I was on track to having a soda every other day, but got derailed by self-sabotage. Like I said, no willpower.
Last Sunday (Nov. 3), I decided to just quit cold turkey. I did it once before and abstained from soda for almost a year, so I figured I’d try again. And so far, I’m doing okay. The withdrawal symptoms weren’t too bad, and I did experience the expected headache, but now that we’re at the end of the first week, I’m feeling a lot better. The bright side is that I’ve been downing water like there’s no tomorrow and am no longer dehydrated. Go, me!
And truthfully, I do feel good. My wrists and ankles still look swollen, but I feel light. Not sure how to explain it, but my body doesn’t feel heavy. And my clothes are a bit loose. I know I was retaining water so I think that might be it. I’m also not craving sweets as much, which is good considering we have a ton of leftover Halloween candy sitting in the kitchen just staring at me.
My goal is to make it to Thanksgiving, so it’s a three week goal. Not sure why I picked Thanksgiving, but it just made sense to me when I woke up on Sunday and decided to stop with the caffeine. Go figure, lol.
I’m optimistic that I can make it to the end of another week and continue on from there.
